What is the Perineum?

Located between the anus and vagina, the perineum is the soft skin where the baby exits the vaginal canal. Being so delicate, this area is prone to perineal trauma during labour and birth.

Benefits of Perineum Massage

With daily massage, this oil blend increases flexibility to the perineum reducing perineal trauma during delivery. By gently stretching the perineum daily from week 34 in pregnancy, perineal massage can reduce the chance of tearing and soothe that burning sensation also known as the ‘ring of fire’ during birth. Perineum massage can also be done during labour and can act as a mild pain reliever.

Ingredients: Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Boswellia sacra (Frankincense) Essential Oil

Dilution: Our oils are blended at a 1% dilution to ensure growing mama and babe are safe during pregnancy.

Directions: Apply oil to perineum area, using your fingers gently massage the inner perineal area in a circular motion. Next, insert your thumb into the vagina and stretch the skin toward your anus with light pressure. Slide thumb from side to side gently. Repeat this practice daily for 5 minutes. You should never feel pain, only slight pressure so as to avoid damaging the tissue. For pain relief during labour, rub oil onto your lower back and tummy.

Post-birth: Can aid in soothing the perineum post-birth as frankincense possesses wonderful wound healing capabilities and post-birth contractions. For protection and bonding, apply oil on the crown of baby’s head and spine after birth. For immune support and wellbeing, apply oil on the bottom of baby’s feet.

Caution: Coconut Oil and Frankincense Essential Oil are considered safe during pregnancy however a patch test is recommended before continued use. Be careful not to apply it to broken skin, but it’s fine for skin that’s in the process of healing.
